Book Review - The Incredible Shrinking Man

I was excited to dive into another Richard Matheson novel after reading I Am Legend (quality horror.) However, I really struggled keeping the excitement while reading this book. It was only a little over 200 pages, but it dragged for most of that. I was hoping to see more action, but it had very little.

There was a rather enjoyable scene, where the main character hunts a deadly black widow the size of a man, but there are no other real antagonists, other than of course, the unknown condition causing him to shrink.

Don't get me wrong, it was well written in terms of mechanics and the idea was rather unique. Richard Matheson has an excellent grasp on horror writing, but I felt no real terror nor did I slip into a situation where I could relate with the character's rising fear.

Save this one for a long airplane flight that's only playing Live Action Inspector Gadget flicks. --

You're too funny, Frank!

I am not a horror/terror kind of reading or movie watching gal- {I saw 'I am Legend'- yeah I was freaked out to the max. Never, never again will I see a flick of Matheson's!!}

This blog is great! It's very unique and 'screams' out who you really are. Good job, Frank. I look forward to coming back often. :)

I used to be totally into horror. Stephen King was all I read. Now, I only enjoy an occasional horror book just to break up the monotony.

Welcome to blogland, Frank.

Thanks for the review of "The Incredible Shrinking Man."

I watched "I Am Legend." I did not like how it ended and it was way too freaky for me.

Unfortunately, I Am Legend (the novel) ended about the same way, meaning rather abruptly. I can remember reading it one night and telling my wife that the story was about to get really good, but then within like 2 pages it was over.

In all honesty, the king of horror is Stephen King. I've almost completely given up reading his works because of how messed up I get after finishing a book.
